January has been all about bringing together my skills in floristry, hairdressing and makeup to produce this classic vintage inspired look. The video gives insight into me as a stylist and some of the preparation, tools, materials and methods that I use to create ‘the whole look’.
In order to style the look I imagined a beautiful warm winter wedding using tints and tones of reds from deep burgundy hues through to crimson and ruby with a touch of pink set against a backdrop of fresh mint and emerald greens.
My video details some of the key elements in creating a bridal look including buttonhole construction, bouquet construction, eyeliner application, lipstick application, hair preparation and a vintage inspired up do. See the preview below.
Bridal Bouquet
One of my favourite things to make is a beautifully crafted bridal bouquet using traditional wiring methods. What I love about this method is that the outcome is a reassuringly weighty bouquet that is delicate and slender in appearance whilst also being comfortable to carry. Every stem is carefully and individually wired into place and then bound together to achieve an elegant bouquet.
Buttonhole
The humble buttonhole should never be overlooked, pretty little adornments for ladies and gents. They might be small, but they can have great impact and really finish off an outfit.
Eyeliner
Women have been lining their eyes since the beginning of time and there are countless products and methods for achieving a classic eyeliner look. In this video I have used a gel liner – what I love about the product is that I have plenty of control and am able to map out exactly where I want to go with it. Having referenced the classic eyeliner looks of the 40’s and 50’s – I achieve an elongated line that flicks slightly upwards.
Lipstick
Lipstick is so fantastic for instantly brightening your look. Again there are many methods and products to try depending on the look you are going for. In this video I created a clean, classic, full dark red lip with plenty of layering and depth in colour.
Hair preparation
So, so important to the success of any up do! I almost always start with a set – I use my hot barrel tongs and heat protector spray to set the hair which creates volume and bend helping to dress the hair with ease.
Dressing the hair
I love the elegant up do’s of the 1950’s and 60’s with hair piled high up on the crown or tucked neatly into a french pleat. With a little time and proper preparation you should find that these styles can be easily achieved.
